Going for It!

What do you want to try next year? Is there something you wanted to try in 2010? What happened when you did / didn’t go for it?
(Author of question: Kaileen Elise)

Next year is a big year for me.  It’s the big 3-0.  I look back on my life now (and I AM one to compare to others) and while I’ve done a lot, I haven’t done enough.  I am so envious of those who DO (as a sidenote, please check out the Project for Awesome.  You want to talk about people DOING things).  But as mentioned yesterday, it takes a lot of little actions to make one big action.

I spend a lot of my time worrying about whether an idea or action would work out.  I really would love to react afterwards rather than thinking everything through beforehand all the time.  I am a big believer in the “Ready, Fire, Aim” approach.  However, my approach to things tends to be “Ready, Fire, Aim, Aim some more, Keep Aiming, forget about it” rather than picking up and firing again.  I don’t really make that second step.

This happens all the time with me.  I get really interested in something for a short period and then leave it be.  I started to play the guitar a few years ago and got good enough to plug through some songs, but not good enough to really do anything with it.  I would really like to master something, rather than just be a hacker.  The only thing that has really stuck with me this passed year was my working out.  For the last 15 months, I have consistently worked out for an hour a day 6 days a week.  I look and feel great.  I don’t foresee my exercising  coming to an end any time soon (barring injuries).

So what do I want to “try” next year?  I want to try and go for it more often.  But this is going to require me to cut things out of my life, or at least be more conscious of my time wasting.

you just described me so perfectly, it was if i was writing the words myself. I also throw myself into new interests, only to have them fade from my mind before I take anything further. I chronically change my mind. good luck going for it!
