Super Saturday with Tony Horton

I had the opportunity this passed weekend to participate in a Super Saturday with Tony Horton.  It was a blast, as there were 300+ people, all under a tent working out.  In between workouts, we had sessions on Tony’s 11 Laws of Fitness, Melissa Costello’s Healthy Food Lifestyle, and being a Beachbody coach.

I had a blast at this thing.  Everyone was so excited to be there, it was a gorgeous day (at least until late afternoon), and we had a day full of Tony Horton.

The Day That Was

Tony was in full force throughout the day.  He was there from almost the very beginning (around 9:45) to well beyond the end of the event taking pictures.  I left around 6:30, and there were still people in line to take pictures.  He also was present for the two non-Tony sessions.  True, his sister did put the event on, but Tony went above and beyond what I would have expected of him at an event like this.  So I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Tony and the people who put this event on as it went off without a hitch (from what I could see) and everyone seemed to come away happy.

Tony Showing us a UCML Move

I was lucky enough to have a front row seat for the workouts.  The morning workout was UCML (Upper, Cardio, Middle, Lower), a program that Tony developed for Usher.  The afternoon was Yoga.  Tony had joked earlier in the day that because many people are not too fond of the P90X Yoga workout, he didn’t want people leaving before the yoga and threatened to switch the order of the workouts.  Fortunately, everyone seemed to stick around for the afternoon yoga session.

That yoga session was no joke either.  He threw out a lot of moves that we had seen before, but there were some new ones that my body just wasn’t ready for.  I stuck through them though, and learned a few more moves to add to my arsenal.  A day later, and I was still feeling the workouts.  I love knowing that I pushed my body enough to know that the workout worked, yet did not push it over the edge (which is common in group workouts like this as everyone wants to one up each other).

Overall it was a great day.  On top of doing the two workouts, I got to meet as well as reconnect a whole bunch of coaches.  The highlight of the day, however, was meeting Mr. Tony Horton.

The Personal Side of Tony

As I don’t have much celebrity interaction in my day to day life, I tend to get a little starstruck sometimes.  I ran into Patton Oswalt at Bumbershoot (a music festival in Seattle) one year and my mind went blank when meeting him (luckily my friend was there to actually have a conversation with him).  It wasn’t like that with Tony though.  Maybe it was because we had basically spent the whole day with him, but meeting and taking a picture with him was a trip.

Seeing him talk to and take pictures with everyone was something to watch.  He’s talked about his acting training and “being in the moment”.  Well, he was in the moment all day.

Tony "In the Moment" on Stage

One of the many stories from yesterday went like this: a woman went up to Tony with a “Before” picture and tells him that she lost 80 pounds.  After a little back and forth, she thanked him for changing her life.  His response was, “I was the nail.  You were the hammer.”  She was so overwhelmed that she started crying and they embraced.  She started to let go, but then Tony responded, “Wait a minute.  I’m not done with you!”  Tony was “present” for everyone after a fairly long day.  That says a lot about him.

My personal Tony story goes like this…

It was my turn to go up and take a picture with him.  He eyes me and asks about my yoga practice, as in if I take yoga classes.  I tell him that my yoga is “all him”.  He then tells me that if I am ever in LA, that he wants me in his yoga class on Mondays.  He would put me right next to him.  So that made me feel great.  I may just have to take him up on the offer.

It was a great day.  Thanks to Kit, Susan, and all those behind the scenes and a very special thank you to Tony who was there pretty much the whole day.  It was a great experience.

Seems like that would be an absolute blast for anyone that enjoys working out and getting into shape! I have recommended P90X to a couple of my friends in the last month that are looking to get into better shape and healthier lifestyle. It has worked so far! One of them hurt their knee during an exercise so had to take a little break from a few of the videos 🙁
